The Carolina Panthers have been granted permission to interview former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, easily the top coaching name available this offseason, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Payton has already drawn interest from a number of teams as he considers a return to the sidelines in 2023, which is not a guarantee. Payton is also still under contract with the Saints, meaning that any time interested in hiring him as their next head coach would have to work out a blockbuster trade with the Saints to get Payton on board.
Payton will interview with the Denver Broncos later this week, his first interview, and the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals receiving permission to interview Payton as well.
