Red Sox’s Trevor Story Undergoes Elbow Surgery

1 Min Read

Boston Red Sox infielder Trevor Story has undergone surgery on his throwing elbow and is likely set to miss a significant portion to start the 2023 regular season, according to the Associated Press (via ESPN).

The Red Sox said on Tuesday that Story underwent an internal bracing procedure on his right ulnar collateral ligament a day earlier and that Texas Rangers team physician Dr. Keith Meister operated at Texas Metroplex Institute in Arlington, Texas.

Additionally, the internal brace procedure repairs an existing ulnar collateral ligament instead of a full reconstruction involved in Tommy John surgery. The less invasive option has the potential of quicker recovery, but there is still a timetable of five to six months.

Story inked a $140 million, six-year contract with the Red Sox last offseason.
