The Minnesota Twins are finalizing a six-year, $200 million deal with star free agent infielder Carlos Correa after Correa’s agreement with the New York Mets broke down, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Correa’s deal with the Twins is pending a physical, and if completed will cap off a wild offseason that saw Correa ink agreements with the Mets, and the San Francisco Giants that fell apart due to concerns over Correa’s surgically repaired left leg.
Correa initially agreed to a 13-year, $350 million contract with the Giants back on December 13th, and then, once that deal fizzled out, agreed to a 12-year, $315 million contract with the Mets, but that too fizzled out due to the same medical issues.
Correa’s new deal includes a vesting option for four years and $70 million and will become official if Correa passes a medical review, which is currently taking place, the focus of which will be on his lower right leg, which Correa broke during a 2014 minor league game but the Twins are expected to be comfortable with it.
Correa, 28, hit .291/.366/.467 with 22 home runs while providing stellar defense for the Twins last season.
