Texans Hire DeMeco Ryans

The Houston Texans have agreed to terms on a six-year contract with former player and current San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans that will see him take the helm as their next head coach, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Ryans’ new deal is for six-years, and will see him take over a franchise that has been in shambles since losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round in January 2022, blowing a 24-0 lead.

The Texans have struggled to find a fixture at the head coaching position following the firing of Bill O’Brien, who infamously traded away star players such as DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals following the playoff loss.

Romeo Crennel served as interim coach when O’Brien was ultimately fired, and Houston would then move to hiring David Culley but he was fired following a 4-13 record in his first season. That led to Lovie Smith taking the reins.

Smith finished 3-13-1 and was fired following their season ending loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
