Suns Retain Kevin Young, Make Him Highest Paid Assistant

1 Min Read

The Phoenix Suns head coaching search came down to a handful of names, including assistant head coach Kevin Young, before the team ultimately decided on hiring Frank Vogel as their next head coach.

Now, the Suns have worked out a deal that will see them retain Young as a part of Vogel’s coaching staff and keep him from following former Suns head coach Monty Williams to the Detroit Pistons.

Vogel is finalizing a five-year deal to become the Suns’ new head coach.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi, Young, who has become one of the league’s top assistant coaches, is staying with the franchise on a new deal worth more than $2 million annually that will make him the NBA’s highest-paid assistant coach.

Young has a strong relationship with Suns superstar Devin Booker, who supported Young during the coaching interview process, as well as a number of others within the organization who supported him being retained as part of Vogel’s staff.
