Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo was one of a number of ejections during Boston’s 7-3 loss to the Houston Astros on the road on Tuesday night that pushed the Red Sox five games outside playoff contention.
Verdugo responded to the ejection from umpire Pat Hoberg, and criticized the umpire’s handling of the situation.
“I understand the human error aspect of it and you’re not going to get every call,” Verdugo said, according to MassLive.com’s Christopher Smith. “But don’t be so sensitive when we let you know our side of it. You know what I mean? That’s baseball. Have a little bit of tougher skin and deal with it.”
The strike zone was an issue for both teams, with Red Sox manager Alex Cora also being ejected a mere three innings after Verdugo.
It will be interesting to see how the league responds to Verdugo’s comments, which made the rounds on social media last night.
