The New York Jets are waiving veteran running back Dalvin Cook, whom they landed this summer in free agency, so that Cook can sign with a contender, according to ESPN.

Cook, a four-time Pro Bowler, has seen his minimal playing time shrink further in the past few weeks capped off with their recent loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night football where he dressed but did not play a single snap, a first in Cook’s career.

Cook, 28, will be subjected to a 24 hour waiver period and following that he will be open to landing on a new team.

Cook collected 214 yards, a 3.2-yard average which is 1.4 yards below his career average.

Cook was recruited by a number of teams, including the Miami Dolphins, following his release from the Minnesota Vikings, but ultimately signed a one-year, $7 million contract, including $5.8 million in guarantees with the Jets.
