Charlotte Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak is officially stepping down as the team’s general manager and will transition to an advisor role as the Hornets front office gets a major shakeup, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Kupchak, 69, has been in the role since 2018, but the Hornets have failed to have much success in the playoffs during his tenure.
Charlotte’s best run came in the 2021-2022 season when they won 43 games but would eventually lose in the NBA Play-In Tournament. A number of injuries as well as the legal issues surrounding Miles Bridges, and his suspension for domestic violence understandably, anchored the success the Hornets could have.
Kuphack was unable to fortify the roster via the free agent and trade markets, despite his success with the Los Angeles Lakers where he spent 30 years in their front office, including 17 years as general manager resulting in four NBA championships and six Western Conference titles.
