Russel Wilson may not play for the Broncos in 2024

Russell Wilson wants at least two more Lombardi trophies but whether he will be doing that as the quarterback of the Denver Broncos, his current team, is something that is in limbo, especially following his comments during an interview on Sunday night.

Wilson, who had a solid season following a brutal first season in Denver said that he still hopes to finish his career in Denver while adding that “You also want to be [in] a place that wants you, too.”

Wilson took part in an 84-minute interview with former Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall on the “I Am Athlete” podcast posted Sunday night.

“I’ve got more fire than ever, honestly, especially over the past two years of what I’ve gone through,” Wilson said, according to ESPN’s Jeff Legwold. “Whether it’s in Denver or somewhere else, I hope it’s in Denver, I hope I get to finish there. I committed there, I wanted to be there. I want to be there.”

“For me, it’s about winning — over the next two years, I want to win two [Super Bowls], I want to feel the chill of that trophy again. I love the city and everything else, but you also want to be [in] a place that wants you, too. The thing I want to do is to win, that’s all I care about.”

When asked about where he would play in 2024 if it wasn’t with the Broncos he said: “Honestly, I haven’t thought about it.”

Wilson then responded to an odds sheet on where he would play next season, which included a number of teams.

“Well, I’m going to put Denver 1, because I’m there right now, but I think you have to have the ability to compartmentalize that. Listen, it’s a business and you’ve got to be non-emotional about it … and no matter what you control to what you can control. … If it’s not [in Denver], though, I’ve got to go to a place where we can win again.”

Regardless of where he plays, Wilson made it clear that he intends to win.

“Next five years I get to hold two more Super Bowl trophies, that’s my goal … that’s my plan … knowing that you want to be one of the greatest winners to play this game.”
