The San Francisco 49ers are apparently open to entertaining a potential trade of disgruntled veteran wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and are reportedly willing to listen to trade offers from interested teams, according to ESPN.
Additionally, the Niners have given Aiyuk permission to negotiate a new contract with interested teams.
Aiyuk, 26, reported for the 49ers’ training camp but has not practiced as he has made it clear he wants a new contract.
The New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns both have been in contact with San Francisco and are interested in trading for Aiyuk, per the report. While the Pittsburgh Steelers were also interested, they do not currently seem to be a potential trade destination for Aiyuk any longer, barring a change.
New England has been in pursuit of Aiyuk for months and the process has been deemed as “slow” from their side.
Now, the key factor in making a trade happen appears to be Aiyuk’s ability to work out a new deal with another team and with the 49ers being comfortable with what they would receive in return in a trade.
According to NBC Sports Bay Area, the 49ers have “negotiated the framework of trades” that would send Aiyuk to the Patriots or Browns, so there is traction being generated towards a potential deal.
