With the return of veteran first baseman Freddie Freeman, the Los Angeles Dodgers have designated Cavan Biggio for assignment, according to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya.
The Dodgers acquired Biggio during a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays back in June, but Biggio has continued to struggle.
During his 30+ games with the Dodgers, Biggie hit .192/.306/.329 with a paltry .635 OPS and 88 wRC+, with most of his playing time coming at the third base position before taking over first base during Freeman’s leave.
Biggio’s time in Los Angeles is over, and should another team claim Biggio off waivers, they would then take on the small portion of his 2024 salary that is still on the Dodgers’ books, with the Blue Jays on the hook for the significant portion of it.
Biggio, 29, has the right to reject the assignment without forfeiting any salary because he is a player with more than five years of MLB service time
