Despite firing head coach Robert Saleh, the New York Jets are not waiving the white flag on their season or are the giving up their pursuit of a trade to acquire Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Devante Adams, according to NFL insider Jordan Shultz.
Per the report: the Jets still “want” Adams as much as he wants to play for them and the Raiders will continue to have discussions with the Jets about a potential trade package, as well as other teams to find the best deal.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New Orleans Saints are atop Adams’ wish list of potential destination as his preference is to play with a quarterback he knows, such as the Saints’ Derek Carr.
Adams has spent the majority of his career playing with Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, when both were with the Green Bay Packers.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Saints have “been the most aggressive suitor” for Adams thus far and trade talks are expected to heat up early this week as Adams gets closer to returning from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of the past two games.
Las Vegas is reportedly looking to land a second-round draft pick and an additional pick in a trade involving Adams, but it appears that no team has been willing to meet that asking price as of this time.
Adams’ contract will also present a hurdle as he has a $16.9 million base salary this year and $35.6 million in each of the next two years, but none of his money following the 2024 season is guaranteed.
The Saints would need to do some financial gymnastics, such as contract adjustments, to make a deal with Adams work, while the Jets could take on Adams’ contract without having to adjust any money thanks to their $16.8 million in cap space.
