The Detroit Lions suffered a big blow to their defense during Sunday’s 48-43 loss to the Buffalo Bills that many considered to be a Super Bowl preview as veteran defensive lineman Alim McNeil suffered a torn ACL, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
McNeil will miss the remainder of the season – “Lions HC Dan Campbell told reporters the initial belief is that Alim McNeill and Carlton Davis suffered injuries that ‘could be season-ending’” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said following the game.
McNeil was having a career year and establishing himself as one of the league’s premier nose tackles and interior run-stoppers and is second on the Lions with 3½ sacks, behind only Aidan Hutchinson’s 7½ sacks. Hutchinson has been ruled out for the season as well.
Davis has 2 interceptions on the season and has been relied upon to cover the opposing team’s top receiver at times.
