The market for New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has been surprisingly slow this winter, but it appears that the market for his services is about to heat up which could lead to him leaving the Mets this offseason.
According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Los Angeles Angels are “looking at” Alonso and that the team would like to get another big bat in their lineup this upcoming season. Alonso would certainly fit the bill.
Should the Angels land Alonso, they would move first-baseman Nolan Scahnuel to the outfield.
“Pete Alonso, the Mets are the most likely still. Angels are looking at it, again I think it’s the years as a possible gap there. They are certainly weighing that,” Heyman stated. “I do believe Arte Moreno wants to get another big bat in there. And they would move Schanuel out to LF if they were to do that. I think Santander is probably a little more likely.”
