The Toronto Blue Jays are considered to be one of the favorites to land former Houston Astros infielder Alex Bregman, and have been one of the most aggressively teams in pursuit of his services, but they reportedly face an uphill climb.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, although Toronto has been having a tough landing free agents this offseason, it doesn’t appear that the trend will stop when it comes to landing a deal with Bregman.
“The Toronto Blue Jays, who continue to be left at the altar among free agents, have shown the strongest interest,” he wrote. “But just how much more do they have to pay him than the next highest bidder with their high tax rates and distance from his home in Phoenix?”
Bregman, 30, would be a major upgrade at the hot corner after producing another solid season where he hit 26 homers and took home the American League Gold Glove at third base.
