Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey underwent surgery for a broken fibula in his left leg that he suffered during last week’s game against the Orlando Magic and will be sidelined for the rest of the season, according to an official team announcement.
The Pistons said Thursday that Ivey will be reevaluated in four weeks.
Ivey suffered the injury when Magic guard Cole Anthony slipped and fell into Ivey’s planted leg while going for a loose ball, sending Ivey to the floor immediately in pain and resulting in Ivey having to leave on a stretcher.
“It is tough for all of us,” Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said following the game, according to ESPN. “There’s no better person or teammate than J.I. and no one cares more about this than he does.”
This is a big blow to a long-awaited turn around season for the Pistons, who are currently at 15-18 on the season, 9th place in the Eastern Conference.
