The Oakland Athletics, ahead of their move to Las Vegas, are ensuring that one element stays in place – their manager.
According to ESPN, the Athletics have signed manager Mark Kotsay to a contract extension that will take him through the 2028 season and includes a club option for 2029 in a deal that was officially announced on Monday.
Kotsay, 49, is in his fourth season at the helm with the Athletics, and organization that is moving from Oakland to Sacramento to play in a minor league stadium for the next few seasons as they prepare for a permanent move to Las Vegas.
Oakland is coming off a promising 2024 season which saw their record improve by 19-wins, finishing with a 69-93 record, a big jump from their 112-loss season that defined 2023.
The A’s also have a slew of young stars to build around such as Brent Rooker, Shea Langeliers, JJ Bleday, and Lawrence Butler.
