The New York Jets have officially released wide receiver Isaiah Williams following his poor outing on special teams during the Jets loss to the Miami Dolphins 27-21 on Monday Nigh Football, according to ESPN.
The release of Williams marked the second time that the Jets have released a player who made a mistake on special teams this season, cutting returner Xavier Gipson following his costly fumble during Week 1’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is attempting to create a culture of accountability in the organization and the latest release is another indication of those efforts.
“That was a big part of the game, and I let the team down,” Williams said after the game against Miami. “Just thinking too much, man, just trying to make a play. At the last minute, I see (a Miami player) and I forget where I am on the field.”
In a corresponding move, the Jets signed linebacker Mykal Walker from their practice squad, and safety Dean Clark was also elevated from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium.
