Former Raiders and New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr could entertain coming out of retirement next season should the right opportunity, and coaching staff, presents itself, according to NFL.com.
A few months ago Carr stated that he would “never say never. Because I’ve learned that when I say never, it usually happens”, and now it seems like it is more likely to happen.
When teams suffered injuries to their quarterbacks, they conducted due diligence on Carr, trying to gather information as to whether the veteran signal caller would consider coming out of retirement, with one such team being the Cincinnati Bengals who contacted Carr after Joe Burrow suffered his turf toe injury.
Carr, 34, announced his retirement last May due to a labral tear in his shoulder and damage to his rotator cuff. The injury could have been addressed and repaired via surgery but that would have put Carr’s season in jeopardy.
Now, Carr says his shoulder has responded well the the several months of rest and led to Carr slowly starting to rehab as the regular season wore on. Carr is now throwing fully as part of his regular exercise routine and he has no shoulder limitations.
While Carr may not be actively seeking a return to the NFL, he understands there is a level of interest and that he may end up suiting up again sometime next season.
