Victor Cruz’a tenure with the New York Giants has come to an end as he was officially released on Monday, according to NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones. Cruz, an undrafted free agent out of UMass, signed with the Giants in 2010 and broke out in 2011 by registering 82 catches for 1,536 yards and nine touchdowns.

The news was broken by NorthJersey.com

Injuries derailed Cruz in 2014 and plagued him in 2015. He made his return in 2016 but fell behind rookie behind rookie Sterling Shepard on the depth chart, finishing the season with only 39 receptions, 586 yards and a touchdown.

It is possible that the Giants could bring Cruz back on a smaller, less expensive deal, but it seems likely at this time.

New York saves $7.5 million in cap space by releasing Cruz, who would have counted $9.4 million against the cap this season. He finishes his Giants career with 303 receptions for 4,549 yards and 25 touchdowns.
