The NHL season has come to an end, the NHL awards have been handed out, now its time for Free Agency. I will list the top 5 free agents and where I think they will likely end up. This off season will be busy one for many clubs trying to lock up there teams for a run at Lord Stanley this October.
After being traded from Buffalo to the Islanders, then at trade deadline being dealt to Montreal, Vanek will get his first look into free agency. Last season playing in 78 games and putting up 27 goals and 41 assists, Vanek is a great asset to any team. He has proved to be a top forward. Since last season Vanek has been rumored to be moved to Minnesota, his wife being from Stillwater MN, may want to go back to her home roots.
My Opinion: Minnesota Wild
Iginla had a amazing first year with Boston, scoring 30 goals and 31 assists, having a long playoff run with the Bruins and also winning the Presidents Trophy he is a key piece to the Bruins offense. Coming off a great year with Pittsburgh last year he was a free agent signing with Boston for one year. Now a free agent again he has been rumored to go back to where he started playing, Calgary. Boston has been also rumored to go all out to keep Iginla and make him first priority.
My Opinion: Boston Bruins
Being with Colorado his whole NHL career since 2007, Stastny is faced with free agency. This season putting up 25 goals and 35 assists he has been a great center for the Avalanche. Also in the playoffs he has put up a total of 10 points. I believe Colorado will do what they can to keep Stastny on their roster and sign him with a decent contract.
My Opinion: Colorado Avalanche
After the New York Rangers lost in 5 games to the LA Kings, they bought out Brad Richards contract making him a free agent and able to sign with any club other the New York. Richards put up big numbers for New York after play 210 games scoring 56 goals and putting up 151 points. Richards would be very valuable to a lot of NHL teams. One team that comes to mind is the team that tried landing him last time he was free agent, Toronto, which is in need of a great veteran who can play along Phil Kessel.
My Opinion: Toronto Maple Leafs
I had to place a top goaltender on this list. I believe Johnson is a great starting goaltender for a great club that needs a net-minder. Two teams come to mind when I think of that, Calgary Flames and the New York Islanders. Chad was a solid back up for Tuukka Rask, record was 17-42 with a .925 save % and 2.10 GAA. Look for Johnson to grab a starting job in the NHL and start to prove he has what it takes to be in the NHL.
My Opinion: New York Islanders
