Jerry Jones On Dallas Cowboys Not Cutting Rolando McClain

2 Min Read

It’s been a turbulent career, to say the least, for suspended Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain and yet he finds himself in hot water again. McClain, who had seemed to finally get his act together in Dallas, was suspended for 10 games for violating the NFL’s policy against substances of abuse.

Despite the latest blow to McClain’s career and the hit the Cowboys roster took, Jerry Jones opted not to cut the trouble linebacker. Jones explained himself during an appearance on NFL Total Access on Monday.

“This was quite a setback, that suspension,” Jones said

“There’s a lot of reasons why we don’t cut him: cap, many reasons,” Jones stated. “But the bottom line is, I’d like to be positive about this and think that we haven’t seen the last of Rolando McClain.”

Jones may be one of the biggest believers in McClain but it’s hard to justify his loyalty considering McClain’s past transgressions and his current status. McClain is teetering on the line for a complete ban from the league and most NFL teams, if all except the Cowboys, would have likely cut ties with him.

But Jones and the Cowboys are known for being somewhat unconventional so riding out his 10-game suspension and holding out hope McClain doesn’t do anything to increase that suspension or turn it into a ban, seems like a bold play.

However, Dallas may consider the risk of losing McClain from their roster by cutting him the biggest risk of all and that is a risk, apparently, that Jerry Jones is not willing to take.
