Week six saw some great performances and a few surprises. Here are my winners and losers.
Winners:
- San Diego Chargers: Quarterback Phillip Rivers threw for a touchdown. Kicker Josh Lambo’s four field goals helped the Chargers stun the Denver Broncos 21-13.
- Washington Redskins: Quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Matt Jones 135 yards and a touchdown. The defense had five sacks as the Redskins held off the Philadelphia Eagles 27-20.
- Miami Dolphins: Running back Jay Ajayi rushed for 204 yards and two touchdowns as the Dolphins upset the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-15.
- Jacksonville Jaguars: Quarterback Blake Bortles’ go-ahead 51-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Arrelious Benn helped cap off a late rally as they defeated the Chicago Bears 17-16. It was Benn’s first touchdown since 2011 and the Jags’ first October road win in six years.
- Kansas City Chiefs: Quarterback Alex Smith threw for 224 yards. Running back Spencer Ware rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown as the Chiefs defeated the Oakland Raiders 26-10.
- Seattle Seahawks: Late defensive stops helped the Seahawks defeat the Atlanta Falcons 26-24 in an exciting intra-divisional game.
- Dallas Cowboys: The rookies led the way again as quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns. While running back Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 157 yards. The defense caused four turnovers as the Cowboys defeated the Green Bay Packers 30-16.
Losers:
- Denver Broncos: Fumbles and penalties doomed the Broncos in their loss to San Diego. They have now lost two in a row.
- Philadelphia Eagles: Despite a pick six by safety Malcolm Jenkins and a kick return for a touchdown by running back Wendell Smallwood, quarterback Carson Wentz was sacked five times which hindered more scoring opportunities in their loss to Washington.
- Baltimore Ravens: Too many overthrown passes by quarterback Joe Flacco kept the Ravens from a chance at a game-winning drive, losing to the New York Giants 27-23.
- Pittsburgh Steelers: Two interceptions from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who left with a knee injury derailed the Steelers in their loss to Miami.
- Oakland Raiders: 12 incompletions from quarterback Derek Carr stalled drives in their loss to Kansas City in a rainy Oakland.
- Green Bay Packers: Turnovers and the defense giving up too many big plays were the Packers’ undoing in their loss to Dallas.
- Atlanta Falcons: Though there was a controversial non-pass interference call late, wide receiver Julio Jones’ fumble led to the Seahawks’ game-winning field goal.
Storylines Going Into Week Seven:
The New York Giants and Los Angeles battle it out in London. Minnesota fresh off a bye go to Philadelphia. Washington plays Detroit.
Can Buffalo stay hot in Miami? San Diego go cross-country to play Atlanta. Pittsburgh hosts New England without Roethlisberger. Houston goes to Denver.
Seattle and Arizona face-off in a NFC West showdown.
