White Sox Name Rick Renteria Manager

The Chicago White Sox acted quick in naming their new manager.

On Monday, the team announced that Rick Renteria will replace Robin Ventura as the team’s manager. Renteria, who served as bench coach for the White Sox this year, led the Chicago Cubs to a 73-89 record while serving as their manager in 2014.

“I appreciate this tremendous opportunity to manage the Chicago White Sox,” Renteria said in a statement. “It is a great honor as well as a great responsibility. Over the past season as Robin Ventura’s bench coach, I have gotten to know the players and staff very well, and I look forward to helping us achieve our goals together.”

Ventura went 375-435 during his five seasons with the White Sox. After an impressive debut season, Ventura’s teams have seemed to regress.

Ventura spoke about a potential change after the conclusion of the season.

“I enjoy this place. I love this place” he said”. “At the end, it probably needs a new voice.”

The White Sox started the season with a 23-10 record but injuries, an inept offense and lackluster bullpen saw Chicago post a  55-74 record the rest of the way.
