Giants Sweep Cowboys And Hand Them Second Loss Of Season

4 Min Read

The Giants bounced back in a big way with a 10-7 win over the division leading Dallas Cowboys. This game was big for the Giants because it was a must win in order to keep their place in the wildcard picture. The Giants and Cowboys both have great offensive fire power, but this game was taken over by defense.

There were several plays that could have swung this game for either team, but both teams would find a way to battle back and have an opportunity to win. The Giants defense took advantage of bad throws by Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and that is how they would win the game.

The offensive start by the Cowboys was something the Giants had to overcome early. Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott had a big game on the ground thanks in large part to his offensive line. He would have 24 carries for 107 yards for the game.

Prescott had a good game as well finding a wide open Terrance Williams for a 31 yards touchdown, but his game would go downhill from there. The first quarter is the only time the Cowboys scored and they could not capitalize on the mistakes the Giants made throughout the game. The Cowboys made similar mistakes and they would pay for it at the end of the game.

Prescott would get sacked three times by the Giants defense, and he would also fumble the ball. The Giants defense started to adjust to the Cowboys offensive play calling and that is when the Cowboys offense started to slow down.

Elliott was not able to break off runs for big yards during the second half of the game and the Giants would limit his time on the field. Dez Bryant would also have a rough night being targeted 9 times and he would only make 1 catch for 10 yards. Bryant had a devastating fumble during the final minutes of the game, and that would lift the Giants to a victory.

Not playing his best game of the season, Eli Manning would help his team get a win with his performance. Manning would have 2 lost fumbles and an interception, but all it took was one play for the Giants to win this game. Manning would throw to Odell Beckham Jr. in the middle of the field and he would get free for a 61 yard touchdown.

Before that play the Giants were down by 4 and that play is one they needed to boost their offense, and have their defense play with a lead. They would take that 3 point lead into the 4th quarter and leave the game in the hands of their defense.

The Giants defense played all-time great against the Cowboys. The Giants defense had two interceptions courtesy of Leon Hall and Janoris Jenkins. One of the three sacks that the Giants had on Prescott came from Romeo Okwara who is playing in place of the injured pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul.

Another important piece of the Giants defense that had a big game was Olivier Vernon. Vernon had 4 solo tackles and got pressure on Prescott and also tackled him. The Giants look like a team that can make a deep run in the playoffs. They have most of the pieces to their puzzle, but they need to use everyone and keep them healthy on both offense and defense.
