It appears that the lingering hip issue that has been haunting Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey isn’t improving in the manner that the Dolphins, or Pouncey, had been hoping. Today, some sad news came out of Miami in regards to Pouncey, who was hoping to return to the field this season.
Per the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have decided to place Pouncey on injured reserve, ending his season. Pouncey will be eligible to return in 2017.
Miami has had to endure numerous injuries across their offensive line. Throughout the season Miami offensive lineman Branden Albert, Mike Pouncey and rookie Laremy Tunsil have all missed games due to injury.
Pouncey, 27, only started 5 games this season. Backup center Anthony Steen has done an admirable job in replacing Pouncey, but Pouncey is widely considered one of the NFL’s top center’s, so his loss is a big one for Miami.
Miami also has to make a decision regarding Dion Jordan who has been on the reserve non-football injury list. Jordan has been practicing with the team the past few weeks. The Dolphins can keep Jordan on that list, which would end his season, or activate him onto the 53-man roster. It all depends on how Miami views it’s current defensive line situation.
With the injury to Tannehill likely to keep him out the next few weeks at best, Matt Moore steps in as the starting quarterback. It had been assumed that Miami would elevate Brandon Doughty from the practice squad to serve as Moore’s backup, but there is thinking that Miami may opt to sign a free agent quarterback instead.
