Chip Kelly Won’t Rule Out Any NFL Or College Coaching Job

2 Min Read

The world of the National Football League hasn’t been king to former San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly over the last year and a half.

Kelly, in a few short years, went from the hottest college head coach that was destined for greatness and innovation in the NFL to losing 2 head coaching jobs in the span of one year (Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers).

It can be argued that Kelly’s departure from San Francisco took place before Kelly could really get anything going, but it also speaks volumes as to how the organization viewed the once highly-in-demand coach.

Kelly, who had his most success at the helm at Oregon, seems to be ready for anything at this point, even a return to the college ranks.

“I evaluate all jobs individually,” Kelly told Fox Sports. “I wouldn’t rule anything out.”

“I’ve never said I’m only looking at one thing,” Kelly said to Fox. “I will never leave my team when there are games left in the season, so I never looked at college because all those jobs are filled while NFL season is still going on.

“I only talked to NFL teams after our bowl game was over when I was at Oregon. It’s pretty simple for me: You can never leave your players during the season. How can you ask players to be all-in and then leave when you get a better deal?”

Kelly was fired from San Francisco with 3 years remaining on his contract and Philadelphia still owes Kelly money, so it isn’t exactly “pressing” that Kelly find work right away, but it seems he is open to anything at this point.
