Nyrobi Akai Commits to Dixie State Before National Signing Day

2 Min Read

Two star Santa Fe High School (CA) defensive lineman Nyrobi Akai has committed to Division II school Dixie State, adding a productive young talent in their 2017 recruiting class.

Akai spent his last two seasons at Santa Fe after transferring from Carson High School in Carson, California. He recorded 84 tackles and 13 sacks as an upperclassman. That includes 93 quarterback hits, 32 tackles, 11 sacks, nine tackles for loss, two touchdowns, two interceptions and two blocked punts in his senior season alone (2016). Check out his senior year highlights.

The six-foot-three, 265 pound defensive tackle had this to say about his decision.

“…It was their honesty and the way they took me in and worked with me all through this process,” Akai said.

He wants to compete for his time on the field and knows his minutes are completely up to the coaches. Learning to perfect his craft from the veterans on the team is something he is ready and prepared to do.

“Dixie State will get a baller who can play all over the field and a winning attitude followed by a winning effort.”

The Dixie State Trailblazers went 6-5  in 2016. Nyrobi Akai wants to make them better in his first season and with his addition, hopefully the Trailblazers can be much better in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference even though they ended last year with a 3-2 record there.

“My first season in college is something I’ve been dreaming about since I was seven, so expect to hear about me this upcoming Fall.”
