The Los Angeles Chargers had a scare when and their dedicated fanbase had a scare today in regards to No. 7 overall pick Mike Williams.
The wide receiver is dealing with a mild disc herniation in his lower back and the team announced that Williams will be held out of organized team activities this week and miss next week’s minicamp.
Essentially, Williams is done with pre-training camp workouts.
This setback compounds what head coach Anthony Lynn said about Williams’ development back in May when he expressed concerns about the potential of Williams falling behind in his development.
“I’d like to see him out there next week because he’s getting behind right now, and we’ve got to get him back out on the field,” Lynn said at the time (h/t NFL.com).
“If he wasn’t a rookie it would be different. But he has so much to learn, and some of this you can only learn on the field.”
