Chicago Bears head coach John Fox is entering his 3rd season at the helm of a team now in the early stages of a complete rebuild.
Fox’s 9-23 record leaves little to get excited about but Fox’s approach to this season and his overall feeling about this team’s roster has him feeling pretty darn good.
“This is the first time I can look at a depth chart and say, ‘You know, I like all these guys,'” Fox said (h/t NFL.com), via the Chicago Tribune.
“Now, whether we can make improvements moving forward or not, I’m not into predicting news. I’d rather report it.”
It’s hard to imagine a team that lost wideout Alshon Jeffery and quarterback Jay Cutler making any major strides or pushing for a playoff spot, but Fox’s comments are interesting considering that both Jeffery and Cutler spent the past 2 seasons with Fox.
Last season, the Bears drudged towards a 3-13 record but shifts at quarterback have brought a ray of hope to the Windy City.
Oft-injured receiver Kevin White is entering a pivotal season, Leonard Floyd’s development should be exciting to watch, rookie Mitchell Trubisky is hopefully the future of the franchise and free-agent quarterback addition Mike Glennon is motivated, or pretty ticked off, to have a big year for the Bears.
It also is a big season for Fox, who may find himself on the hot seat should the Bears struggle as mightily as they did last season.
But Fox isn’t worried.
“It’s really like Year 28 for me,” Fox said.
“I’m beyond the feeling-the-pressure part of it. As a coach, you put pressure on yourself. There are a lot of people in that building, in those stands on Sundays, they want to see a winner bad.”
