The Houston Astros bolstered their pitching staff ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
The Astros have completed a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays for Francisco Liriano, as first reported by Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi later confirmed the report.
Liriano, who was traded to Toronto by the Pittsburgh Pirates last August, is in the final season of a three-year, $39 million deal he originally signed with Pittsburgh back in December 2014.
Liriano has struggled this season posting a 5.88 ERA with 91 hits allowed, 43 walks and 74 strikeouts in 82.2 innings.
While Liriano has struggled at times during his career he has shown the ability to effectively bounce back, especially after a move.
Upon landing in Toronto from Pittsburgh last year, Liriano posted a 2.92 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 49.1 innings for the Jays.
Back in 2012, Liriano signed with the Pirates and posted a 3.02 ERA in the 2013 regular season.
