On Monday, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and kick returner Lucky Whitehead was charged with stealing items totaling less than $200 in Virginia. The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff told Lucky the news and he was removed from the practice field. Then a few hours later, the team decides to release him.
Then on Tuesday, Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett address the media for about three minutes where he basically says one sentence over and over again: “Yesterday we made a decision we thought was the best decision that we felt was in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys. We’re going to stand by that decision and we’re going to move on.”
Then fast forward to today. According to an article on nfl.com and also according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the New York Jets picked up the 25-year receiver off of waivers. Shortly after signing the former Cowboy, the New York Jets made it official on the team’s website.
By signing Lucky Whitehead, the New York Jets gains not only a great punt returner on special teams but also a talented wide receiver. In 2015, Lucky Whitehead made his way to the NFL as an undrafted rookie and signed with the NFC East Dallas Cowboys. in 2016, according to Pro Football Reference, Whitehead had 195 punt return yards and 394 kick return yards in only one start. However, when he’s out as a wide receiver, he had 3 receptions for 84 yards.
