Darren McFadden Arrested for DWI

2 Min Read

Former NFL running back Darren McFadden was reportedly arrested and charged with a DWI after recently falling asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle, according to police, according to the Dallas News.

McFadden, 31, was formally arrested early Monday morning in McKinney, Texas. McFadden allegedly was found asleep in the drive-thru lane of a Whataburger fast food restaurant and now faces charges of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest.

Per the report:

“McFadden, 31, faces charges of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, search or transport. He was released on personal recognizance a short time after being taken into custody, jail records show.”

Continuing:

“Employees at that fast-food restaurant in the 9000 block of West University Drive reported a man asleep in his vehicle in the drive-thru just after midnight, McKinney police said.”

McFadden had a storied collegiate career before heading to the NFL, where he played for the Oakland Raiders, who drafted him 4th overall in the 2008 NFL draft, and the Dallas Cowboys prior to his retirement.

When McFadden was with Dallas, many people considered the Cowboys to be a potential Super Bowl contending team, and many legal betting websites predicted they would make a run with McFadden in the backfield.

But, the emergence of Ezekiel Elliott pushed McFadden’s carries down, and he retired earlier in his career than many expected him to.

McFadden was released from police custody on personal recognizance after being booked on Monday morning, and was ordered by a court to install an ignition interlock device on his car.
