Mets Fire Mickey Callaway

1 Min Read

The New York Mets have fired manager Mickey Callaway following a 86-win season that saw an impressive second have surge that propelled them into playoff contention.

Although the Mets playoff hopes were ultimately dashed, the team showed a ton of fight and a lot of potential for the future.

Callaway, 44, won’t be a part of that future.

“We want to thank Mickey for his consistent work ethic and dedication over the last two seasons and I’m certain these characteristics will serve him well in his next opportunity,” Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said in a statement (h/t ESPN). “A decision like this is never easy, however, we believe it is in the best interest of the franchise at this time.”

The Mets hired Callaway back in 2017 when he was the pitching coach for the Cleveland Indians.
