The Houston Texans have bolstered their secondary by acquiring veteran cornerback Gareon Conley from the Oakland Raiders on Monday, according to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop.
Conley, a former 2017 first round draft pick, was called a “good young player” by Raiders’ head coach Jon Gruden, but Gruden added that the team was set to giver other young cornerbacks playing time.
According to the report, although details regarding compensation were not immediately known, it is believed that the Texans gave up a third round draft pick for Conley.
“It was a tough decision, obviously, and we certainly wish Gareon the best,” Gruden said. “Good young player. We do have some young corners that we drafted — Trayvon Mullen, we have Isaiah Johnson coming back soon (off injured reserve), Keisean Nixon, Nevin Lawson is coming back. We want to look at some younger players and wish Gareon the best. Thank him for his contribution.”
The Texans are reeling after their loss to the Indianapolis Colts, a game in which quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns.
Conley has one interception and two passes defended over six games for the Raiders this season.
