Colts’ T.Y. Hilton Talks Struggles Following Thursday Night Game

3 Min Read

Indianapolis Colts’ wide receiver T.Y Hilton feels like the Colts’ 20-17 loss to the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football is due to his disappointing performance, his first game back after a three-game absence due to a calf injury.

Hilton finished with only 3 receptions for 18 yards, including 0 catches in the second half, in perhaps the worst performance of his entire career.

“I let the team down,” Hilton said, according to ESPN’s Mike Wells. “Totally on me.”

Hilton said that the loss was “100 percent” on him. Hilton had joked that NRG Stadium was like a second home to him.

“When someone says this is their home, they’re insulting me,” Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins said. “T.Y. is a great player. That’s my boy. But I take things like that personally. I didn’t know that until you just said that, because I’m not really in the media. But he’s played some amazing games here. [Thursday] wasn’t their day.”

Hilton also struggled with a few crucial drops.

“I have to make that,” Hilton said. “That’s what I get paid for. I have to make them. One hundred percent on me.”

Hilton admitted that he was sore, and Colts’ head coach Frank Reich said that they planned for Hilton to play no more than 30 snaps. Hilton ended up playing 25 snaps in the game.

“I give him credit for wanting to be on the field,” Reich said. “We knew even if we could get him on the field for 20, 30 plays, some of it was just as a decoy so hopefully [the Texans] would roll the coverage to him or do something like that and give us a chance to run it a little bit better. So that was part of the plan.”
