Dolphins Reveal Mock-Up Plans for Hosting Fans at NFL Games in 2020

3 Min Read

The Miami Dolphins have mock-up plans in place to host fans in Hard Rock Stadium for NFL games during the 2020 regular season amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe.

Dolphins CEO/president Tom Garfinkel detailed the mock-ups of new entrances at their stadium that would adhere to social distancing guidelines, during an appearance on “Good Morning America” on Monday morning.

The mock ups showcase colored spots on the ground that lead up to the entrance gates that would designate the necessary distance between fans to ensure social distancing is in place, similar to what businesses such as super markets and retail stores have in place in their checkout lines.

While Hard Rock Stadium has the capacity to hold around 65,000 fans for a Dolphins game, the mock-ups show that with the new measures in place, it may limit them to only 15,000 fans next season.

“We would have times to come in for security at different gates so people would be separated out, in terms of when they enter the stadium,” Garfinkel said, during the appearance. “We would exit the stadium much like a church environment, where each row exits so people aren’t filing out all at the same time in a herd.”

While the NFL has not unveiled any finalized fans, the Dolphins felt it was necessary to have their plans specked out.

“When our fans, players and staff are able to return to Hard Rock Stadium, we want them to have peace of mind that we’re doing everything we can to create the safest and healthiest environment possible,” Garfinkel said.

“We didn’t want to create our own standard, we wanted to be accountable to the most credible third-party standard that exists. Working with the GBAC ensures compliances with critical guidelines for the highest standard of cleanliness and it is our hope that other venues will follow suit as we navigate through these unprecedented times.”
