The New York Jets and veteran safety Jamal Adams have reached an impasse during their contract negotiations which have upset Adams’ camp, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
The Jets and Adams have been having a number of talks, but the team has informed Adams that they would prefer to wait on a long-term contract extension, while Adams prefers that a deal be completed prior to the 2020 season.
The Jets’ stance has reportedly upset Adams, and the two sides have discussed a trade, however there are conflicting accounts of just how serious those trade discussions are. The team, however, has no desire to trade him and is intent on signing the star safety to a contract extension.
Adams, 24, is due to make $3.5 million this year and is eligible for a contract extension as he has completed his third season.
Adams has been named an All-Pro, and selected for the Pro Bowl twice during his first three seasons.
The Jets have already shopped Adams, ahead of the 2019 NFL Trade Deadline, which upset Adams, but drew the interest of the Dallas Cowboys, although no deal materialized.
