The MLB Player’s Association is preparing to make a counteroffer to their original proposal for a return to play with a proposal of their own that includes more games and full prorated salaries, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The proposal includes more than 100 games and a guarantee of full prorated salaries for the 2020 season.
Per the report, during a number of calls that took place on Wednesday players reportedly pledged to ignore the league’s initial proposal and instead offer a proposal of their own.
The player’s rejected the MLB’s proposal, and Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer, who is one of eight players that form the MLBPA’s executive subcommittee put out a tweet that stated that the significant pay cuts in the league’s initial proposal would not be accepted, adding that player’s the union would remain committed to players receiving their full prorated salaries.
“After discussing the latest developments with the rest of the players there’s no need to engage with MLB in any further compensation reductions,” Scherzer tweeted.
“We have previously negotiated a pay cut in the version of prorated salaries, and there’s no justification to accept a 2nd pay cut based upon the current information the union has received,” Scherzer wrote.
“I’m glad to hear other players voicing the same viewpoint and believe MLB’s economic strategy would completely change if all documentation were to become public information.”
