The NFL is planning to play “Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing,” traditionally known as the Black national anthem, prior to every game being played in Week 1 of the upcoming season, according to ESPN’s Jason Reid.

According to a source cited by the report, the song will be performed before “The Star-Spangled Banner”.

The NFL will kick off the 2020 season on September 10th when the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs take on the Houston Texans.

Per the report, the NFL hopes that its efforts demonstrate “a genuine commitment to the public, players and coaches and that player voices continue to be heard,” according to text messages from the noted source. “This is key to educating fans, and becoming a prominent voice in the fight to end racism.”

Last month the league unveiled it’s plans to increase it’s social justice footprint by pledging $250 million in donations over a 10-year period.
