The Washington Football Team is making a change at quarterback by benching Dwayne Haskins in favor of Kyle Allen, according to an official team announcement issued on Wednesday.

Allen is now slated to started as Washington takes on the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5, with veteran Alex Smith serving as his backup.

The benching of Haskins isn’t much of a surprise, as head coach Ron Rivera told him he would be benched if his play did not improve.

Haskins went 32-for-45, throwing for 314 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions during Washington’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4.

Allen, whom Washington landed in a trade with the Carolina Panthers back in March, started 12 games for the Panthers last season, posting a 5-7 record and throwing for 3,322 yards with 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

Allen has familiarity with Rivera’s system, from their time together in Carolina.

However, with Alex Smith waiting in the wings, it could be only a matter of time before Washington makes another change under center.
