The Boston Celtics will be without star point guard Kemba Walker until January after he received a stem cell injection in his left knee.

Walker, 30, received the injection after consultation with multiple specialists in early October, and has was placed on a 12-week strengthening program. The team hopes he can return to on-court activities early in December.

An update on his return to the court is expected to be provided during the first week of January.

Walker averaged 20.4 points, 4.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds during his first season with the Celtics last season, leading Boston to the Eastern Conference Finals where they lost to the Miami Heat.
