Alabama’s Mac Jones Says Team Best Ever to Play

2 Min Read

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Mac Jones is making his case that the 2020 championship winning team is the best to ever take the field.

“I think we’re the best team to ever play,” Jones said, according to ESPN’s Alex Scarborough. “There’s no team that will ever play an SEC schedule like that again,” Jones said. “At the same time, we’re just so happy to have won this game and kind of put the icing on the cake.”

“Yes, we really are the best team because we worked hard,” Alabama defensive lineman Christian Barmore said. “We didn’t hear the outside noise. We ignored the COVID stuff. We just worked hard together. We just really grinded out for this, camp, scrimmages, everything.”

Alabama had a monster game from wide receiver Devonta Smith, who caught a CFP title record 12 passes for 215 receiving yards, the second more in a CFP or BCS game, and scored 3 touchdowns which tied a BCS/CFP title game record. Smith did it all during the first half of the game.

“Heaven knows what he would have done if he played the whole game,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said.

“It came down to the young guys just putting in the work, every day, every week, knowing if somebody went down, they were going to have to come in and do something big,” Smith said. “I believed in them from the jump. That’s what we do; that is why you come to Bama.”
