The Jacksonville Jaguars have hired Trent Baalke as their new general manager, making an official announcement on Thursday.

Baalke, 56, has served as the director of player personnel with the Jaguars but took on the interim general manager role when the Jaguars fired David Caldwell.

“Trent Baalke has had success at virtually every level of football, notably so as a GM who shrewdly and quickly built an NFL conference championship organization and team,” Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in an official team statement. “Trent thoroughly knows the NFL and the dynamics of today’s game, has an exceptional eye for talent, and I know will have excellent chemistry with head coach Urban Meyer as they begin their mission to bring a consistent winner to our fans in Jacksonville.”

Baalke spent 2011 through 2015 as the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers, and was responsible for helping construct the roster that brought the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
