As the Houston Texans get set to embark on one of the most critical offseasons in the history of their franchise, a lot of the focus has been on the status of quarterback Deshaun Watson, who requested a trade last week.
However, Watson is not the only prominent Texans player who may have played his last down with the team.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, there is a “sense” that the Texans could look to move on from veteran superstar pass rusher J.J. Watt as they look to start on a complete rebuild process.
The report says that the organization believes that the three-time Defensive Player of the Year deserves clarity on the situation.
According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, there are some teammates and coaches within the Texans organization that believe the Watt has played his final game in Houston, and that sentiment being the general “mood in the locker room after their final game.”
Watt is due to make $17.5 million in 2021, and the 31-year old is coming off a season in which he played a full 16 games for only the second time during the past five years, turning in 52 tackles, 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and a pick-six interception.
