The Los Angeles Rams landed quarterback Matthew Stafford in a blockbuster trade over the weekend and now we are finding out about other teams who were in talks with Detroit about acquiring the veteran signal caller.
While the Denver Broncos were interested and among the teams in talks for a Stafford trade, despite the interest of the New England Patriots (per NFL.com’s Michael Giardi), Stafford was not going to approve a trade to Bill Belichick’s team.
According to NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran, Stafford informed the Lions he did not want to be traded to the Patriots.
It’s shocking that Stafford wouldn’t want to be traded to the most successful and dominant franchises in the 2000s, and perhaps the greatest head coach of all-time in Belichick. The Patriots interest indicates that they are interested in upgrading the quarterback position this offseason.
