Adding fuel to the trade rumor fires regarding Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, current Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa says he is unsure if he will be the Dolphins quarterback in 2021.
Tagovailoa made some interesting comments during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show.
But the comments that will dominate the headlines where in regards to his status as the Dolphins quarterback. Miami has been consistently linked to Watson, and are among the favorites to land him this offseason.
“Honestly, I’m not too sure. I can’t control things that I can’t control. What I can do is continue to work hard,” Tagovailoa said, h/t The Athletic’s Josh Tolentino.
Tagovailoa threw for 1,814 yards and 11 touchdowns and 5 interceptions last season for Miami, but was benched due to poor performances late in games against the Denver Broncos and the Las Vegas Raiders, and looked brutal in the season finale against the Buffalo Bills, a blowout loss that eliminated the Dolphins from playoff contention.
Tagovailoa was vastly outplayed by other rookie quarterbacks such as Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and Los Angeles Chargers signal caller Justin Herbert.
Tagovailoa appeared on the Sirius Mad Dog Radio show this morning and spoke about his hopes that he remains with the Dolphins, and is their franchise quarterback.
“In my mind and in my heart, I would hope so,” Tagovailoa said, according to ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe. “With the way things went last year, you always have to prove yourself to do better, and I want to do better.”
Tagovailoa also spoke about his performance under center during his rookie season stating that he “would describe my rookie season as below average. This past season wasn’t up to the expectation that I have for myself.”
