Charlotte Hornets rookie guard LaMelo Ball, who is the frontrunner for the NBA Rookie of the Year award, is likely to miss the remainder of the season due to a fractured wrist, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Ball’s injury is in the area of the thumb on his shooting hand, and he won’t formally be ruled out for the season until his meeting with Dr. Michelle Carlson at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York early this week.
However, the report cites sources that say that Ball’s sensational rookie season is set to end after 41 games, and with the Hornets in the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference, which has been a resurgent season for the long-suffering franchise.
The Hornets announced Sunday evening that Ball, 19, underwent an MRI and an initial diagnosis revealed a fractured bone in the wrist.
Ball has posted 15.9 points, 6.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds this season for Charlotte.
