Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid has been diagnosed with a meniscus tear in his right knee and has been officially ruled out for Game 5 of their series against the Washington Wizards, according to an official team announcement issued on Wednesday.
The Sixers said the injury will not be treated with surgery, but instead with a physical therapy and treatment program, and Embiid was be day-to-day after missing Game 5 on Wednesday. Embiid, 27, suffered the injury midway through the first quarter of Game 4.
Embiid enjoyed a career-year in 2020-201 and averaged 28.5 points and 10.6 rebounds while being named a finalist for the NBA Most Valuable Player Award.
