The Seattle Kraken won’t be pouncing on the opportunity to select Montreal Canadiens star goaltender Carey Price in the expansion draft despite Price waiving his no movement clause to become available, according to ESPN’s Emily Kaplan.
Price led the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup Final this year, where Montreal lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and would have been an incredible acquisition for the expansion Kraken, but his contract may have been a non-starter. Price stated that he made the decision to become available because he is unsure if he will be able available at the start of next season due to knee and hip injuries, and wanted to protect backup netminder Jake Allen for the team.
Instead, the Kraken have signed Chris Driedger, their selection from the Florida Panthers, to a three-year deal.
Seattle is likely to select more affordable goalies during tonight’s expansion draft.
